Planter beds filled, with irrigation!
Supplies
Because Home Depot was only a 10 minute drive away, my brother and I transported 8 2x6x8s in my mom’s car with straps and towels, carefully driving back.
A friendly Home Depot Associate helped me cut the other 2x6x8s in half, for the short side of the planter bed. We also cut 3×3 posts in half.
Redwood was chosen for its natural rot resistance and lack of chemical treatment. It also looks beautiful!
Build
Holes were pre-drilled and screws were sunk to join the planks with the posts. The 3×3 posts sit flush with the end of the plank to join the short sides and the long sides.
A total of 8 screws are sunk into each post, 2 per plank, 4 per side.
For the 8 foot segments, a third post was placed in the middle to reduce bowing.
Installation
All ready for this year’s growing season!
Planting
I can’t take credit for this, all my mom’s hard work 🙂
Reflection
It was awesome working with wood again, especially with redwood which was beautiful. Gained a deep understanding of torque settings on my power drill using stainless steel deck screws 😛
